Al-Sadd draw 3-3 with Lekhwiya in a thriller
Al-Sadd came away with a 3-3 draw with Lekhwiya in the QSL Round 3 match played on Sunday at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium. The result means that Al-Sadd now sit in third place in the league table with 7 points.
It was Al-Sadd who opened the scoring when Baghdad Bounedjah netted in the 19th minute. Lekhwiya replied soon after with Youssef El Arabi converting in the 23rd minute. In the 40th minute, Tunisian attacker Yousef Msakni made it 2-1. In the second half, Hassan Al-Haydos scored from the penalty spot to equalize for Al-Sadd in the 70th minute. Lekhwiya regained the lead once again in the 77th minute through Nam Tae Hee, only for Al-Sadd to come back and get the equalizer yet again, this time through Bounedjah in the 83rd minute.
Strong start to the match
The match began in an exciting manner with both teams putting numbers in midfield and players going in strongly to make a difference. In the 7th minute, Lekhwiya midfielder Luiz Mairton sent a powerful shot at the Al-Sadd goal but it went over the crossbar. Al-Sadd’s reply came through Baghdad Bounedjah and the Algerian dribbled through the left and sent in a cross but it was deflected out. In the 15th minute, Hassan Al-Haydos had a go from outside the box but Lekhwiya keeper Claude Amine was on hand to save the ball.
Bounedjah gives Al-Sadd the lead
Al-Sadd took the lead in the 19th minute when Bounedjah picked up a through ball from Mohammed Kasola and slotted it past Amine to make it 1-0. The lead didn’t last long though as Youssef El Arabi equalized in the 23rd minute after converting a cross from the right by Ismail Mohammed. A period of calm followed the goal and although both teams looked to make inroads, no real danger was posed. In the 39th minute, Ali Asad sent in a through pass to the oncoming Jugurtha Hamroun, who got past Khaled Muftah and controlled the ball but Amine was in place to clear the danger.
Msakni puts Lekhwiya ahead
In the 40th minute, Lekhwiya took a 2-1 lead after Yousef Msakni headed in a cross from the left by Nam Tae Hee. A few minutes later, the referee blew for halftime.
Khalfan and Abdelkarim come on
The Al-Sadd players put pressure on their opponents from the beginning of the second half in order to find the equalizer. Head coach Jesualdo Ferreira did not take long to make his first change and brought on two players in one go: Khalfan Ibrahim and Abdelkarim Hassan replaced Ali Asad and Hossam Kamal.
Al-Haydos equalizes; Lekhwiya lead again through Nam
Al-Sadd finally got their equalizer in the 70th minute when Ibrahim Majid was brought down in the box. Al-Haydos converted the resulting penalty to make the score 2-2. Lekhwiya, however, got back in the lead once again when Nam Tae Hee scored from a free kick to make it 3-2.
Saddawi pressure culminates in Bounedjah equalizer
The Saddawi pressure continued thereafter in search of the equalizer and Ferreira made his third and final substitution to help push it. On came Hamed Ismail in the 81st minute and he made an immediate impact. Just a minute after coming on, Hamed sent in a low cross from the right that was duly finished off by Bounedjah to make the score 3-3. That went on to be the final result.
