Al-Sadd downs Mesaimeer 5-1 to return to 2nd place temporarily

In a winning start to the second phase of the QSL, Al-Sadd defeated Mesaimeer 5-1 in the Round 14 match played at the Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium on Sunday. The win lifted Al-Sadd to second place temporarily with 27 points in its tally.
Hamza al-Sanhaji gave Al-Sadd an early lead in the second minute itself before young forward Meshaal al-Shammari added a second in the 24th minute. By the 41st minute, the Wolves were 3-0 up after Muriqui scored his 11th goal of the season. Khalfan Ibrahim then scored the fourth goal for the team two minutes before halftime.
In the second half, Mohammed Kasola scored the fifth goal for Al-Sadd in the 51st minute before Brazilian striker Erivelto da Silva reduced the deficit with a consolation goal from a penalty in the 83rd minute.
right start for Al-Sadd, Hamza scores the opener
Al-Sadd started the match brightly and attacker Hamza al-Sanhaji was able to open the scoring in the second minute after kickoff. Nadir Belhadj crossed from the left and Hamza was at the right place to score the opener. Al-Sadd continued to dominate and kept up the pressure, moving the ball around well and fast. In the 15th minute, Belhadj played another cross, this time from the right which was met by the head of Ibrahim Majed but Mesaimeer keeper Basel Zaidan put the ball away for a corner.
Saddawi domination, Meshaal adds the second
The Saddawi domination continued and in the 24th minute, it gave rise to a second goal. The brilliant Hamza sent a cross in from the right, which was collected and lashed in by Meshaal al-Shammari, who got his first goal of the season and the second goal of the match for Al-Sadd.
Mesaimeer attempts to get back; Al-Sadd get a third
There was a balance between offence and defence in the way Al-Sadd played in the final few minutes of the match. Mesaimeer tried during this period to get back into the match with attempts of their own but were not able to be of any danger. In the 38th minute, Meshaal al-Shammari could have scored his second but his header hit the right post and went out. Three minutes later, Al-Sadd scored again. This time it was team top scorer Muriqui; the Brazilian finished off a cross from Meshaal to score his 11th goal of the season and make it 3-0 to Al-Sadd in the match.
Khalfan concludes the first half with a fourth goal
Only a couple of minutes later, Khalfan Ibrahim managed to score the fourth goal for the Wolves with a sweet strike from outside the box that nestled in the bottom corner. The referee then whistled for the end of the first half and the teams went into the tunnel with Al-Sadd carrying a 4-0 lead.
Al-Sadd begin first half with no changes and adds a fifth goal
The second half began with Jesualdo Ferreira making no changes to his team. Al-Sadd kept up the pressure as they looked to score more as Mesaimeer were kept on the back foot. On 51 minutes, Mohammed Kasola rose to head a Nadir Belhadj cross into the net and make it 5-0 for Al-Sadd.
Nasser Ibrahim replaces Meshaal al-Shammari
Al-Sadd made its first change in the 62nd minute with Ferreira sending on Nasser Ibrahim in place of the impressive Meshaal al-Shammari, who registered a goal and an assist. Al-Sadd then attempted to increase the scoreline further and went on search for more goals while Mesaimeer kept up their cautious defensive performance.
Da Silva reduces the deficit
Mesaimeer had a chance in the 76th minute when Muhannad Adnan took a shot which was kept out well by Al-Sadd keeper Saad al-Dosari. In the 83rd minute, Mesaimeer were awarded a penalty kick after a foul by Lee Jung Soo in the box. Erivelto da Silva stepped up and scored to reduce the deficit. There were three minutes of injury time added in the end, after which the referee Abdulrahman al-Jassim whistled for full time, signalling a 5-1 win for Al-Sadd.
