Bright start for Al-Sadd; early goal for Muriqui
Al-Sadd started the game brightly, managing to open the scoring the 3rd minute itself through Muriqui who struck from the edge of the box, placing the ball in the left of keeper Mohammed Mubarak. The Wolves continued to dominate throughout the first half and Muriqui thought he had got a second when he put the ball in the net in the 19th minute but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Qatar attempts to get back; balanced Al-Sadd team
There was a balance between defence and offence for Al-Sadd, who played with a 4-2-3-1 system with a backline of Karim, Kasola, Lee and Belhadj, while Talal and Ali Asad formed a midfield pairing in front of them. Khalfan, Xavi and Al-Haydos formed the attacking trio and up front, Muriqui was the lone striker. Qatar SC tried to break the Al-Sadd defence with various attempts but Al-Sadd held on to prevent them with support from the midfielders.
Al-Sadd pressurize strongly; Hamza comes on for Muriqui
As the half progressed, Al-Sadd started put a good amount of pressure on the Qatar goal. They almost scored in the 35th minute when al-Haydos struck a Belhadj cross; the ball was deflected by Mohammed Mubarak and cleared off the line by Khaled Saleh. At the other end, Mohcine Iajour had an attempt from outside the box which was unsuccessful. Al-Sadd then made their first substitution, bringing on Hamza al-Sanhaji for the injured Muriqui. A few minutes later, the referee blew his whistle signalling halftime, with Al-Sadd leading 1-0.
Al-Sadd attack straightaway in the second half
Just after the restart, Al-Sadd went on the offensive straightaway with Hamza al-Sanhaji sending a header at the Qatar goal. Mohammed Mubarak was somehow able to palm it away with difficulty for a corner.
Kasola scores the second; Ibra get his first appearance
In the 53rd minute, Al-Sadd got their deserved second goal, when Mohammed Kasola rose to head the ball in after a free kick delivered from the right. The defender was substituted in the 73rd minute and was replaced by Ibrahim Majed, who made his first appearance of the season.
Iajour reduces the deficit
