Al-Sadd football first team manager Abdulla al-Breik has expressed his surprise with the decision of the Qatar Football Association to call up 6 Al-Sadd players to take part in a national Olympic team training camp.
In an exclusive chat with the club website, Al-Breik said: “We respect the decision but Al-Sadd should be respected too. There should be respect for its official participation in the league game against Al-Gharafa which has been set as per the QFA schedule. We consider it a crucial game especially in light of the fierce battle for the QSL title this season.”
The team manager added: “Al-Sadd has always been the first supporter of the national teams and everybody has seen its contribution throughout the different age groups. But with what footballing reason can prevent players from an official club match in order to take part in practice and friendly matches? The official tournament for the Olympic team is still two months away.”
The former Al-Sadd player also said that the national teams committee should have consulted and reached an agreement with Al-Sadd before proceeding with the call-up. “There should have been a discussion and agreement with the national teams management and the Al-Sadd Club in order to coordinate the process of withdrawing players from their club team. These kinds of random decisions do not help in the development of our league,” said Al-Breik, while also pointing out that Al-Sadd always takes pride when its players represent the national teams.
Al-Breik went on to say: “What is happening in our League has not been seen before in any other league in the world. Even if the Olympic team needs Al-Sadd players, the QSL should have been stopped first or our match should have been delayed so that only Al-Sadd is not affected by this situation.”
As for the upcoming match against Al-Gharafa, Al-Breik said: “Despite the conditions the team is going through, Al-Sadd still has the ability to get the win and perform well in a match that is going to be really tough, against a team that has great abilities.”
The manager concluded his talk by saying: “Despite the obstacle of the withdrawal of the players from an official match, Al-Sadd is still able to overcome these challenges and get the win.”
