Akram Afif named as Qatar’s best by Estad Al Doha poll

Akram Afif retained the title of Qatari player for the year for the second time in a row, after the seventh annual poll conducted by the Estad Al Doha newspaper, with the participation of 100 football personalities, including coaches, analysts, current and former players, administrators and mediapersons.

Akram had won the title for the year 2018, after which he continued to shine in 2019, in which he was crowned as the best player in Asia by the AFC, after his impressive displays in Qatar’s triumph at Asian Cup held early last year in the UAE, and his brilliance with Al Sadd in the AFC Champions League 2019.

According to the Estad Al Doha newspaper, Akram was chosen as the best after finishing above his closest challengers by collecting 549 points, giving him a big lead over teammate Abdelkarim Hassan, who came second with 336 points, while Almoez Ali came third with 323 points.

Former Al-Sadd star Khalfan Ibrahim had won Estad Al Doha’s best player award in 2013, followed by Hassan Al-Haydos in 2014, before Akram Afif, who has now won the title twice in a row in 2018 and 2019.
