Al-Sadd honour IHF president and Super Globe guests
Al-Sadd Sports Club held a dinner banquet in honour of International Handball Federation (IHF) president Hassan Mustafa and other IHF Super Globe guests who are in Qatar ahead of the tournament that brings together the cotinental champion clubs. The Super Globe will be hosted by Al-Sadd from 5th to 8th September, 2016.
The IHF delegation was welcomed by Al-Sadd founding father Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, club vice president Nasser Mubarak Al-Ali and club CEO Turki Nasser Al-Ali. The banquet was also attended by president of the Qatar Handball Association (QHA) Ahmed Al-Shaabi and QHA general secretary Mohammed Jaber Al-Mulla.
Also in attendance were players of the Al-Sadd handball team, club officials and mediapersons.
Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah and Nasser Mubarak Al-Ali handed over the club shield to Hassan Mustafa, who in turn gave them the IHF shield.
The IHF had earlier announced the schedule of the 10th edition of the Super Globe, which will be hosted by Al-Sadd at the Duhail Sports Hall. Eight teams will be participating and they are: Al-Sadd (hosts), Lekhwiya (Asian champions), Fuchse Berlin (defending champions), Esperance (African champions), Vive Targi Kielce (European champions), Paris Saint Germain (invited by IHF), Sydney University (Oceania champions) and Taubate (South American champions).
Hosts Al-Sadd were drawn to meet Sydney University in its first game in the Round of 8 while Lekhwiya will play Fuchse Berlin. Esperance will take on Paris Saint Germain and finally, Taubate will face Kielce. The tournament will be played on a knockout basis, with the winners progressing to the next round and the losers playing for the classification spots. The matches will begin from 1 PM.
