Al-Sadd defeats Al-Khor & returns to winning ways
19 Feb 2016
Al-Sadd finally got back to winning ways once again after a deserved 3-1 in over Al-Khor in the QSL Round 19 match played on Friday at the Al-Khor Stadium.
The result brought Al-Sadd back into fourth place in the league standings with 32 points. Hassan Al-Haydos scored two goals in the 36th (P) and 80th minutes while also setting up Hamza Al-Sanhaji to score another in the 73rd minute. Waleed Mohyeldin scored a late consolation for Al-Khor in the 90th minute.
A calm & cautious beginning
The match started in a cautious manner with both teams doing very little in terms of attacks at goal in the first ten minutes. After that period of calm, Al-Sadd tried to impose their domination in midfield and put pressure on Al-Khor. In the 13th minute, Hassan Al-Haydos senta powerful shot from outside the penalty box which went wide of the left post of Al-Khor keeper Baba Djibril. It was followed by Morteza Pouraliganji making an attempt with a shot which was saved by Djibril.
The post denies Al-Khor amidst Saddawi domination
The Saddawi domination continued throughout the half with Al-Sadd controlling the match and Al-Khor players on the back foot. Al-Sadd played in a 4-2-3-1 system: Abdelkarim, Morteza, Belhadj and Musab formed the back four while Xavi and Salem Al-Hajri played in central midfield. Ahead of them was the attacking trio of Al-Haydos, Ali Asad and Meshaal Al-Shammari. Hamza Al-Sanhaji was the lone striker up front.
In the 26th minute, Al-Khor almost took the lead against the run of play. In their first real chance, Lacina Diaby rose to meet a cross with a header, only for the ball to rebound off the left post.
Al-Haydos gives Al-Sadd the lead
Al-Sadd then managed to take the lead when Morteza was fouled in the box. Al-Haydos dispatched the resulting penalty and made the score 1-0 to the Wolves. The remaining minutes of the half saw both teams cancel each other out until the referee blew his whistle to signal haltime.
Bright start to the second half
With the start of the second half, Al-Khor players intensified their efforts to find an early equalizer but the Saddawi defence stood firm in the face of every attempt. In the 55th minute, Al-Sadd orchestrated an attack which saw Al-Haydos try an overhead kick but the ball went over the bar; it was the first shot for Al-Sadd in the second half. Later, Hamza Al-Sanhaji tried a shot from the left in the 58th minute but he could only hit the side netting.
Kasola replaces Meshaal, Hamza doubles the lead
Head coach Jesualdo Ferreira made the first change of the match for Al-Sadd in the 60th minute by bringing on Mohammed Kasola in place of young attacker Meshaal Al-Shammari. Kasola took his place in central midfield alongside Salem Al-Hajri while Xavi moved further up front to help Al-Haydos and Ali Asad in creating a second goal. That goal came in the 73rd minute, with Al-Haydos managing to get past multiple players and penetrate into the box before squaring the ball across to an unmarked Hamza, who made no mistake and doubled the lead.
Al-Haydos scores the third goal for Al-Sadd
In the 80th minute, the excellent Al-Haydos went up on the left wing before cutting in to the centre and finishing off his solo run with a low shot past Djibril, making it 3-0 to Al-Sadd. Ferreira then made his second substitution, replacing Abdelkarim Hassan with Gaser Yahya. In the 90th minute, Al-Khor midfielder Waleed Mohyeldin reduced the deficit with a powerful shot from outside the box that got past Saad Al-Dosari in the Al-Sadd goal. After four minutes of additional time, the referee blew his whistle to end the game and give Al-Sadd a 3-1 win.
