A strong start, Al-Wakrah score the first goal

The start of the match was a spirited one with both sides going for the goal. It was Al-Wakrah who managed to draw first blood with Jorge Saez scoring in the 10th minute from close range. The Argentine striker was able to make use of bad marking by the Al-Sadd defence and connect with a cross from Hamood Al-Yazidi. Al-Sadd reacted quickly with Nadir Belhadj sending in a cross in the 15th minute which was met by Meshaal Al-Shammari but the shot went over the crossbar.

The post denies Muriqui

In the 21st minute, Brazilian striker Muriqui almost equalized for Al-Sadd. Xavi played a pass to Al-Haydos who set it up for Muriqui with a through ball; the Brazilian struck it but it hit the right post and went out. After that waste of a deserved goal-scoring opportunity, Al-Sadd continued to put pressure on the opponent with Xavi and Muriqui attacking from deep and Al-Haydos and Belhadj attacking from the wings.

Al-Sadd attempt to equalize..and Al-Haydos gets the goal

Al-Sadd continued to make attempts to find an equalizer in the following minutes by putting pressure on the defenders of an Al-Wakrah side who were sitting back and relying on counter attacks from its attackers Maher Yousef and Mouhcine Motouali. On 41 minutes, Al-Sadd finally managed to level the scores. Meshaal sent in a cross from the right which was met first time by an acrobatic effort from Hassan al-Haydos. The shot beat the Al-Wakrah keeper and signalled the equalizer for Al-Sadd four minutes before halftime.

Exciting start to the second half, Al-Wakrah regain the lead

Al-Sadd started the second half with the same lineup from the first half. The Wolves maintaine their pressure on the Al-Wakrah goal; in the 49th minute, Muriqui penetrated from the right and crossed to Xavi whose shot deflected off a defender and went out. And then nn the other side, Al-Wakrah managed to score against the run of play. In the 58th minute, Ruben Amorim struck a shot from the edge of the box which rebounded off the crossbar, only for Maher Yousef to head the ball in to make it 2-1 for Al-Wakrah.

Nasser Ibrahim comes on, the woodwork denies Al-Sadd again

Jesualdo Ferreira, head coach of Al-Sadd, made his first change when he brought on Nasser Ibrahim in place of Saleh Bader in the 63rd minute to sharpen the attack. On 65 minutes, Al-Haydos had an opportunity to equalize again but once again, Al-Sadd were denied by the woodwork; this time, the effort from Al-Haydos hit the crossbar and went out.
