Exciting start with Al-Sadd domination

The match started well for Al-Sadd with fans urging them on , putting early pressure on Al-Khor and imposing their domination on the match. Xavi sent in a good cross in the 12th min which was cleared by the Khor defence before Nadir Belhadj had a close effort three minutes later.

Saddawi pressure & careful Al-Khor

Al-Sadd continued to put pressure on Khor looking for the opening goal while al-Khor maintained a stubborn defence, depending upon their trio of Madson, Antonio and Julio Cesar for counterattacks. In the 21st minute, Kasola sent a shot that went just wide of the right post. Belhadj then crossed well for Muriqui but the Brazilian was not able to convert and get a deserved goal for Al-sadd.
Chances continue but no real danger
The chances kept on coming but were not of much danger to al-Khor. Belhadj had a powerful shot fly above the bar (33rd) while al-Haydos sent a through ball that was gathered by Khor keeper Djibril in the final moment. The referee then blew his whistle a few minutes later, sending the two teams into the tunnel with the score at 0-0.

Belhadj shot raises temperature early in second half

After the restart, Al-Sadd should have been in the lead when Belhadj attempted a shot in the 49th minute; unfortunately, the ball went out off the left post. The situation did not change much with Al-Khor continuing to survive the pressure while rare attacks came for them, such as a Madson effort which was quick but did not work out. Talal al-Baloushi tried to break the deadlock for us but his shot from inside the box was saved by Djibril.

Ibrahim Majed replaces Ali Asad

Al-Sadd carried out its first substitution in the 68th minute with Ali Asad being replaced by Ibrahim Majed who played alongside Lee Jung Soo in defence, while Abdulkarim moved to left-back to enable Nadir Belhadj to move up to left wing. The Saddawi pressure increased after that with Belhadj threading the ball through to Muriqui who took a touch and shot it, only for it crash off the right post. Khalfan took a swipe at the rebound but it went out and yet another deserved chance was wasted.

Amouta brings on Saleh Bader

In order to increase the pressure further, Amouta brought on Saleh Bader in place of Mohammed Kasola in the 85th minute. Although there was more pressure from the Wolves in the final period, they failed to score. The referee blew his whistle after 4 minutes of additional time, bringing the game to a goalless end.
