Morteza Pouraliganji: Can’t describe my delight in joining Al-Sadd

Iranian defender Morteza Pouraliganji has spoken of his happiness in joining Al-Sadd. The new signing also talked about his sense of responsibility that comes with marshalling the defence of the Wolves, as a replacement for the South Korean and former Al-Sadd star Lee Jung Soo. He also pointed out that he was eager to start with a big club like Al-Sadd in this new phase of his life, which he expects to be exciting.

Speaking after participating in his first training session, Pouraliganji said: “Playing in the Al-Sadd defence will give me a huge mental push and motivation to always give my best. Al-Sadd is a cornerstone of Qatari and Asian football and playing for its crest is an important point for any footballer.”

In his chat with al-saddclub.com, the Iranian also added: “I have big hopes with Al-Sadd and that is to win titles which will become part of my footballing achievements. I will always strive to work hard and give my best in order to gain the trust of the coaching staff and the club officials and also help the team to win all titles, both local and Asian.”

Pouraliganji had earlier signed for Al-Sadd from Chinese side Tinajin Teda and has a contract until the end of the ongoing season. He is a replacement for the South Korean defender Lee Jung Soo who leaves after spending five and a half seasons with the club.

The 23-year old Iranian national team player also spoke of his departure from China, saying that it was because of his desire for a new different phase in his life. “I received many offers after the end of my contract with Tianjin and there were offers from China, Europe and also some clubs from Qatar. But I preferred the Al-Sadd offer especially after consulting with friends and family, who encourageed me a lot to join a big team like Al-Sadd and have a new experience in Qatar,” said Pouraliganji, adding that he was eager to start this new phase in his life.

As for playing alongside Spanish star Xavi, Pouraliganji said: “Xavi is a legendary player and he has had great experience, winning all trophies in his career with Barcelona and the Spanish national team. Playing alongside him is a dream come true and I hope I benefit from his experience and learn a lot from him.”

Asked about his readiness to play, the Iranian defender said: “I underwent the medical test at the Aspetar hospital before agreeing to join Al-Sadd. I will strive during the upcoming phase to reach full fitness and readiness to participate in the matches with Al-Sadd.”
